The Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly referred to as EFT or “tapping”, is a form of pressure point tapping which combines the ancient Chinese science of acupuncture with modern psychological techniques, often delivering remarkable results.

Tapping is helpful for a wide variety of psychological issues, including self-limiting beliefs, childhood traumas, obesity, negative body image, pain relief, fears and phobias, just to name a few. EFT has been shown to be extremely effective and is easy to learn and use. It’s also very convenient and can be applied almost anytime, anywhere.

EFT works by using the fingers to stimulate the body’s energy points (called meridians), activating and balancing the healing energy of your own body. The concept of a meridian system is an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine. According to this theory, there are 100 main meridian points forming a network of energy channels. This energy is called “chi” by the Chinese, but goes by many other names around the world: Prana, kundalini, life force, universal energy, etc. This energy can be accessed by tapping on any of the meridian points along the system and used to heal.

The human body is much more powerful than many people realize, brimming with life, vigor and energy that can be utilized for self-healing with amazing results.

How to do EFT

The video below gives a great demonstration of how to perform this technique, but it’s important to keep a few things in mind when doing so.

The first thing to understand while tapping is that you must focus on negative emotions that you are addressing, such as anger, fear, anxiety, addictive behavior or any unresolved problems you may be experiencing. While focused on the problem at hand, tap each of the body’s energy points 5-7 times with the fingertips. By tapping on these meridian points and concentrating on accepting the negative emotion and resolving to heal it, you will activate, balance and restore your body’s energy. You may have noticed a similarity between tapping and acupuncture. Tapping and acupuncture both accomplish healing by stimulating the meridian points and promoting the flow of the body’s energy. There is one big difference, though: EFT does not involve needles – something that will appeal to a great many people who are averse to sharp objects.

Acupuncture also requires years of study and training to master and must memorize hundreds of meridian points throughout the body.

EFT is easy to do and pain-free, and can be performed by basically anyone. You can do it by yourself, any time or place, and it’s both inexpensive and quick to perform. Tapping can be used to alleviate specific emotional issues, life challenges and negative experiences. Perhaps most notably, EFT gives you the ability to heal yourself, placing the power of controlling your destiny in your own hands.

Tapping is simple and painless. It can be learned by anyone. And you can apply it to yourself, whenever you want, wherever you are. It’s less expensive and less time consuming. It can be used with specific emotional intent towards your own unique life challenges and experiences. Most importantly, it gives you the power to heal yourself, putting control over your destiny back into your own hands.
